| Hello all you aspiring duelists. I'm going to put some really basic tips up here to help everyonre improve. If anyone else has tips they would like to add... POST THEM!!!!! Seriously, do it.
Let's lead in with Spell/Trap control and why it's important.
To be honest to any duelist a backrow is a scary thing. (backrow being spell/trap zone with cards in it.) You have no idea what they might do when you summon or use a spell or whatever. So taking out the backrow is important. There are a lot of cards to choose from when thinking about s/t control.
First off we have the all so important: Mystical Space Typhoon Its a quick spell and that means you can play it during any time during your turn. Even during the battle phase. Or you can set it and use it as a trap card. Using it to destroy your opponents backrow before it can become a problem.
Then we have Heavy Storm This destroys all spells and traps on the field. Unless your opponent has a starlight road this is a good thing.
Then we have less common solutions but still valid ones Dark Bribe: Negates and spell or trap but lets your opponent draw. To stop dark hole or heavy storm thats not a bad trade-off To top it off it's a counter trap so you opponent can't stop it unless they have another counter trap.
Night Shot: Like an MST except they can't chain a feacedown card. Can be useful when you don't go first

| great tips.....now for sum traps the main one's that we all knw and love solemn warning: if a monster would be summoned OR a magic/spell/monster eff would be used to summon a monster negate the summon and detroy the monster/spell/trap. bottomless trap hole: Activate only when your opponent Summons a monster(s) with 1500 or more ATK. Destroy and remove from play the monster(s). great card to use against Dino-rabbit or hieratics decks that use big monsters with 1500 ATK or more Macro Cosmos: When this card resolves: You can Special Summon 1 "Helios - The Primordial Sun" from your hand or Deck. While this card is face-up on the field, any card sent to the Graveyard is banished instead. great trap to use against inzektors,dino-rabbit,wind-ups, and also hieratics. | |

| I have to disagree on your statement that macro hurts rabbits. on the contrary, I built a deck which revolves around Macro Rabbit. It runs Necrofae, which, when normal summon, returns all banished cards back to the deck, and gives himself 100 ATK for each cards returned (good for refilling the dino engine, kinda like a pot of avarive for banished cards) and not to mention when banished, it banishes the top 5 cards of both decks. Leviair is more useful then ever, and the Macro Engine destroys Hieratic, Dark World and Inzektor. And even Veiler and Maxx "C" are completely useless. So, as you can see, the deck is Meta and Anti Meta at the same time.

Actually that brings me to the importance of having HAND TRAPS (in caps for the emphasis) Veiler and Maxx C are the only things that can stop the dreaded wind-up loop first turn. Veiler also stops stuff like Inzektors and Fabled Raven so people can't bring out their plays. Maxx C punishes people for summoning too much and gives you a bigger hand. Then we have cards which I personally consider hand traps. Gorz the Emissary of Darkness When you have an empty field and your opponent attacks you you can summon him. Since it's the damage step your opponent can't chain Bottomless or Judgment. Also its a fiend so you have extra power against dark worlds. Tragodia Not as good as gorz this meta but still helps. Does basically the same thing as Gorz but you can do it when you take battle damage. It gains 600 for every card in your hand and can make some xyz plays with its level changing hijinks. Only problem is that with this meta you almost never have a big hand.

| Gorz and Trag aren't really hand traps, mostly due to the fact they need to get triggered in order to activate, while Veiler and Maxx "C" you can use whenever you want (exception on veiler, but still fits the profile). Gorz and Trag only get to activate when you take damage, Gorz even with empty field only. according to that logic, you'd consider Honest also a hand trap. | |

I personally consider them hand traps just because they're like a well placed trap card and can turn the game arount in response to an opponent's action. Which brings me to the importance of the BACKROW (again caps for emphasis) like I just said a well placed trap can change the course of the duel, or spell for that matter. Everybody side decks: Chain Dissapearence it removes from play a monster with 1000 or less from play (cause I'm still not used to banished.) along with every monster with the same name from your opponents deck. This can decimate strategies. Almost everyone plays: Forbidden Lance (This is what I meant by spell) Lance can make your cards immune to spells and traps until the end phase at the cost of 800 atk It can also be used on your opponents cards. So if a 3000 atk grapha attacks your 1900 monster you can Lance it making it immuine to gates losing 300 and losing 800 from Lance. Some people play: Fiendish Chain: Chain essentially makes a monster a 'dead' summon No effects, no chainging battle position, no effect. No nothing, its just there. Mirror Force Noone really expects it now. mostly because its slow compared to cards like Fiendish or Dissapearence This means no one sees it coming and can easialy turn the duel around. There are of course many others, but giving all of them to you right now would spoil creativity.

| Fiendish Chain can also easily be triggered. Making your opponent think you're making a play around a card's summon, they chain it, then you make the actual main play. It's hard to do that though, only pro's manage to do it, since it's partly a mind game. I only did something occardingly once. and I most certainly do NOT consider myself to be a pro. | |
